What is LED light therapy?

LED Light Therapy uses light waves in different colour spectrums to alter the way cells produce energy and antioxidants. However, its original use was actually for science experiments. The lights were originally developed by NASA in the 1960s. NASA wanted to see if they could use the lights to grow plants in space. Later on, the Navy SEALS began using these lights to help heal wounds quicker. They also used the lights to help regenerate damaged tissue. Today, the lights are used particularly for skin treatments. It does not use ultra-violet rays. Also, no tanning or burning happens when your skin is exposed to the light. 

How does it work?

Practitioners expose your skin to various wavelengths of LED lights. The lights go through the skin at different depths. Once they penetrate the skin, the lights can stimulate biological processes. These, in turn, may push the body to heal and rejuvenate, specifically, the skin. Now, there are several colours of LED lights that are particularly therapeutic. Light waves in red help heal skin, bones, nerves, even tendons and ligaments. These can also produce collagen for anti-aging, reduced stretch marks and scarring. On the other hand, blue light therapy can target acne bacteria that lives on the skin. This light works to reduce acne lesions. Yellow light therapy addresses skin problems and improves blood circulation to the skin tissue. 

What can you expect from a session?

Each session lasts around 20 minutes. The practitioner will ask you lie under some LED lights. In other cases, they may run a LED light-infused wand over your skin. Normally, about 10 sessions are enough to complete your treatment, with a week's interval between each session. The final number of sessions, however, depends on the amount of treatment you need. Because this therapy is non-invasive, you won't need any recovery time after each session. When you're done with your initial set of treatments, you may need to get maintenance treatments every few months just to keep your cells fresh.
