What is Naturopathy?

Education, prevention, and natural remedies are the basic tenets of naturopathy. Also known as naturopathic medicine, it uses natural medicine to heal the body. It takes a holistic approach to health and wellbeing and aims to prevent illness. Rather than treat a disease according to its symptoms, naturopaths focus on its root causes. Once these are determined, naturopaths decide which natural remedies will be most effective. They may use one or several to get treatment going. Some of the remedies they use include herbal medicine, homeopathy, and acupuncture. A naturopath believes the body is naturally equipped to heal itself. So they use these modalities to nudge the body towards that path of healing. And this only happens when the body is in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment. As they conduct treatment, a naturopath also teaches how people can use natural means to look after their own health.

How does it work?

The healing methods a naturopath chooses to use are dependent on your condition. However, all these methods are applied holistically. While a naturopath looks at the root causes of your disease, they also consider your lifestyle. This is why they may give you suggestions about lifestyle changes you could make, while they carry out your natural treatment. These adjustments could cover a wide range of aspects, from diet to sleep patterns. Eventually, these changes may be able to help naturally remove toxins from your system, giving your body the go-signal to heal itself.

What can you expect from a session?

On your first session, the naturopath will conduct several tests to determine the cause of your pain or discomfort. They may begin with a standard pathology test, then continue with nutritional tests, hormone tests, or even hair analysis. Aside from these tests, the naturopath will also spend quite a bit of time discussing you and how you live. They may gather some medical history details, ask you about your daily routine, what you eat, how you sleep. Then they begin the therapies. These are non-invasive and all-natural. Your naturopath may do acupuncture, some homeopathic techniques, and massage. Afterwards, you can maintain your healing with regular visits to your naturopath.
