Reiki

What is reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese healing method that uses a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing. Its purpose is to release tension and stress from your body. Practitioners do this by placing their hands lightly on, or over, your body, channeling universal energy to prompt your body's natural healing. As an effect, the increased flow of energy helps you relax, reduces your stress, and enhances health and wellbeing. Reiki is based on the belief that when vital energy in your body is balanced, your body is totally capable of healing itself. Hence, if there is an imbalance in the energy, reiki works to restore energy harmony. It's a holistic method of treatment that incorporates the body, mind, and soul in its approach.
How does it work?
The effectivity of reiki as a complementary therapy is supported by several studies. By stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, this healing modality can help ease chronic conditions. For example, it is most known to lessen anxiety and depression. It also minimises pain and supports the relief of side effects from medication. Consequently, reiki has the power to help raise self esteem and improve quality of life.
What can you expect from a session?
Before you begin a reiki session, make sure you are wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothes. It's best to not wear jewelry or glasses for the duration of the session. Typically, a reiki session lasts from 20 minutes to an hour and a half. The practitioner begins by asking you about any symptoms or issues you'd like addressed. When all the details have been discussed, they will ask you to lie down on a padded treatment table. They may cover your body with a blanket. To make it even more relaxing for you, they may play soft, soothing music. The practitioner will then move their hands over your body; maybe lightly touching you in some areas. Except for the music, reiki sessions are done in silence. Though if you feel uncomfortable, speak up. You may feel tingling or heat sensations going through your body during the session. Or you could see visualisations, too. If these happen, just go with the flow. After the session, you may feel tired, so drink a lot of water. Some people have also felt energised, calm, and peaceful.
